Itinerary Fact Details
Trek Duration: 2 hrs drive
Highest Altitude: 1460m

After breakfast, we start our day by exploring the capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu. The city is known for its serene environment and traditional architecture. We begin our tour with a visit to the Late King’s Memorial Chorten, a stupa built-in memory of the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The chorten, located at the center of Thimphu, is a popular spot for locals to offer prayers and circumambulate the stupa.

Next, we head to the National Library, which houses a vast collection of ancient Buddhist manuscripts and modern books on Bhutanese culture, religion, and history. Our next stop is the Folk Heritage Museum, a beautifully preserved traditional Bhutanese house that showcases the lifestyle, culture, and traditions of Bhutanese people.

We then visit the Hand-made Paper Factory, where traditional Bhutanese paper is made using the bark of the Daphne plant. You can watch the paper-making process and even try your hand at making paper. We then head to the School of Arts and Crafts, where you can observe students learning the traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan, including painting, woodcarving, and embroidery.

The highlight of the day is the visit to the Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong), a majestic fortress and monastery that serves as the seat of Bhutan’s government. The Dzong is known for its intricate Bhutanese architecture, stunning Buddhist artwork, and beautiful gardens. You can stroll through the corridors, observe monks engaged in prayer, and enjoy the serene atmosphere of this sacred place.

Later in the afternoon, we drive back to Paro, where we can relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Paro Valley. Stay overnight in Paro.

Day 03: Trek to Taktshang Lhakhang (Tiger's Nest) and Visit National Museum and Drukgyel Dzong

After a refreshing breakfast, we will embark on an exhilarating trek to Taktshang Lhakhang, also known as Tiger’s Nest. The temple, perched on a cliff at an altitude of 3120 meters, is one of the most sacred and iconic landmarks of Bhutan. According to legend, Guru Padmasambhava flew to this location on the back of a tigress and meditated in the caves on the cliffside for three months. The trek will take about 5-6 hours round trip, and the stunning views of the Paro valley along the way are a treat for the eyes.

After lunch, we will visit the National Museum of Bhutan, housed in a round watchtower-like building. The museum showcases Bhutan’s cultural heritage and exhibits an extensive collection of ancient Bhutanese art, relics, and artifacts. You can also learn about Bhutan’s rich flora and fauna, including the country’s rare and endangered species.

Later, we will visit the Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress located in the upper part of Paro valley. The fortress, built in 1649 to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders, is now in ruins but still holds historic significance. You can also enjoy the scenic views of the nearby village from the dzong.

After a fulfilling day of sightseeing, we will return to our hotel in Paro for a comfortable overnight stay.
