Overview

Phaplu Everest Base Camp Trek is a very classic trekking trip that takes you up to the neck of the world’s highest mountain Mt. Everest exploring the awe-inspiring Landscape of the Khumbu region and its people. The Solukhumbu region is one of the most beautiful places in the world situated at the periphery of Mt. Everest (8848 m). along with other eight thou sanders like Mt. Lotse (8,501 m), Mt. Makalu, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Cho-Yu (8,153 m), and many other famous peaks like Island Peak (6,160 m). , Mera Peak (6,461 m). Mt. Ama Dablam, Kondge Peak (6,011 m). etc.

Phaplu EBC Trek start from Phaplu itself. We reach Phaplu via 35 minutes of our scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu. Phaplu is a beautiful village with an airport facility inhibited by people belonging to different caste and races and following different cultures and traditions. The trail follows the usual trail of the Everest base camp exploring through the steep-sided valleys, huge glaciers, hedgerows and trees bursting into bloom, with Rhododendrons, adding a spectacular splash of colour to the landscape, lush valley, beautiful villages with their people working in the field and their cattle grazing in the meadows, famous monasteries, and stunning scenery along with the spectacular view of the world high peaks up to Base Camp of Mt Everest at (5,357m). This trekking trail is similar to the EBC trekking route from Namche bazaar as the trek starts from Phaplu rather than from Lukla or Jiri. While returning back you can either trek up to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu or trek back to Phaplu and Fly to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Kathmandu(1300m) to Phaplu(2413m)

Today you will fly a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu for about 30min. If under any circumstances flights are not available, then you will drive to Phaplu on the bus which takes about 11 hours. During the drive, you can enjoy the beautiful panorama of rivers, forests and different villages. Phaplu is considered the starting point for the Khumbu region treks and it also has an airstrip. You will take a few stone steps leading to Nunthala and take a rest.

Day 2:
Phaplu(2413m) to Nunthala (2440m)

Today we wake up early and after having breakfast, we will be heading towards Nunthala. On the way, we pass through Ringmu village where you can explore the mesmerizing greeneries. You will also reach Taksindo Gompa(3870m) which consists of different monasteries, passes and an old cheese factory. After hiking for a few more hours, you will reach Nunthala.

Day 3:
Nunthala(2440m) to Bupsha (2040m)

After having your breakfast, you will be descending towards Dudhkoshi river. During this two-hour walk, you can enjoy different scenes such as pastures, mountains and birds as well as villages of Sherpas and Rais. After reaching Dudhkoshi, you will then ascend your trail towards Jubhing all the way up to Kharikhola. Then after hiking for 45 minutes more takes you to Bupsha, our destination which is famous for the ancient Buddhist monasteries.

Day 4:
Bupsha(2040) to Surke (2309m) passing through Kare-la Pass (3145m). 5-6hours

Today, you will get a chance to visit Khari La pass after you walk for about two hours. Here, you can see dense oak and rhododendron forests which makes this place even more appealing. From this place, you can see the major peaks of Sagarmatha namely Mt. Numbu(6960m.), Mt. Cho-Oyu(8201m.), Mt. Gyangchung Kang(7922m.) and Mt. Thamserku(6629m.). You can rest and enjoy the site here for a few minutes. After that, you will continue your trek downwards to reach Puiyan. It is one of the famous settlements of tea houses that rests on the bottom towering hill. In addition, you can also explore Khumbu valley and finally head towards Surke.

Day 5:
Surke(2309) to Monjo (2835m)

Today, your final stop is Monjo. On the way to Monjo, you can see the Kusum Kanguru mountain. You will also come across Chauri Kharka basti.On the way to Monjo, there is Hillary School established by Sir Edmund of the Netherland country. You can visit Buddhist schools and monasteries too on the way. After viewing these places, and enjoying mountains along the way, you will reach Monjo.

Day 6:
Manjo(2800m) to Namche (3440m)

Today, heading through the Dudh Koshi river from Manjo, you will start the second day of your climb. You will cross the 5 suspension bridges on your approach to Namche. As soon as you pass the last bridge, you will continue with a 2 hours climb. On the way, you will relish a fascinating view of Mt Everest. You will reach Jorsalle by climbing 15-20 minutes which is the last spot before Namche. Here you will have your lunch. By then continuing the journey you can see an amazing view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Nuptse. A trip through pine woods for 2 to 3 hours depending on your speed prompts the promising and alluring village of the Namche Bazaar.

Day 7:
Acclimatization at Namche(3440m).

Today you will go on a climb around Namche Bazaar. Right after that, you will visit the Hillary museum. On the trek, you will be seeing the mesmerizing view of the Everest range which is considered one of the most amazing viewpoints in the world. After thirty minutes, you will be proceeding with your trip to Syangboche Everest(3780m) see lodging where you will appreciate the awesome mountain views. Day 8:
Namche(3460m) to Tengboche(3860m)

Today you will proceed towards Tengboche. While in transit to Tengboche, the views on Everest and Ama Dablam(6812m) are phenomenal. You can take a glance at the spotted deer and colourful Himalayan birds, to be specific Daphne which are otherwise called Nepal’s national bird. The path ranges to Sanasa(3600m) and drops towards Phunki Thenga (3190m). Then it enters the rhododendron and pine forests. Then your goal will reach to the hilltop village of Tengboche at 3870m. Day 9:
Tengboche(3860m) to Dingboche(4410m)

Day 10:
Rest day in Dingboche(4410m)

Day 11:
Dingboche(4410m) to Lobuche(4910m)

After strolling for some time you will draw nearer to high mountains like Mt.Nuptse and Mt. Pumori. You can see the excellent views of Mt.Lobuche too. There would be freezing cold so you have to wear cosy clothes since we will be approx. 5000m above ocean level. The trek will be quite lovely as it is 4-5 hours long. When you come out of the valley, you will trek to Lobuche yak pastures.

Day 12:
Lobuche(4910m) to Everest Base Camp(5364m). Then return to Goraksep (5164m)

In the first part of the day, You will climb till you reach up to Gorak Shep from Lobuche. After you stroll for 60 minutes, the way gets troublesome however you will be amazed by extremely pleasant views on a wide range of Everest, Nuptse and different mountains. You will take lunch at Gorakshep. After having lunch, you will go to your last destination for Everest Base Camp.On your path, you will also get to see Khumbu Glacier(4900m). After hiking for around one hour you will cross the glacier and enter the Everest Base Camp area(5364m). After reaching there you can see the renowned Khumbu glacier and Icefall. After roaming, you can enjoy the sunset there and you come back to Gorak Shep due to the low temperature and high altitude at Everest Base Camp.

Day 13:
Gorakshep(5164m) to Kalapattar (5545m)

We can see incredible views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest base camp, Mt. Pomari, Khumbutse, Khumbu Glacier and many other numerous mountains. Walking down to Gorak Shep and you will be having Himalayan Lunch there. At that point, we keep on continuing to Pheriche(4371m) or Pangboche(3985m).

Day 14:
Pangboche(3985m) to Mangla Danda(4900m)

Today you will be hiking toward Mangla Danda. During the hike, you will get a chance to explore Mt. Ama Dablam(6812m), Mt. Thamserku(6623m) and Mt. Kusum Kanguru(6367m) clearly. On the way to Porche, an old village, you will come across mountain goats, rivers, vultures and green agricultural pastures. One interesting fact about Porche is that every family in the village is an Everest summiteer. After walking 400m ahead, you will reach the same trail you used to reach Gokyo if you have. This day is quite a challenging day of the trek on the whole trip since the tail is small and full of rocks.

Day 15:
Mangla Danda(4900m) to Phakding (2600m)

After having breakfast, you will go for today’s trek to Phakding. When you are heading towards your destination you will reach the 5 suspension bridges among which one is Hillary bridge. Then you will trek downhill towards Kyung Zuma for almost one hour. The path is quite easy to walk till you arrive at Namche Bazaar. You can see fascinating mountains like Mt. Everest(8848m), Mt. Thamserku(6608m), Mt. Lhotse(8516m) and many more. You can capture some of the memories of the scenery. Then you will walk slowly towards Phakding.

Day 16:
Phakding(2600m) to Lukla(2827m)

Today, you will climb to Lukla through the Sherpa village of Phakding. You can likewise appreciate the lovely view of Everest. You will be travelling almost 9km for nearly 4 hours on a rough way of Everest Region. It takes practically 8.30 kilometers from Phakding to reach Lukla.

Day 17:
Lukla(2827m) to Kathmandu(1400m)

Next morning you will book a departure flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. During the flight, you will appreciate the lovely landscape until you arrive at Kathmandu from where you will head to your inn and get some rest.
