Overview

Everest Three Pass Trek can be one of the most thrilling and exciting trekking trips that take you to the world-class high passes of the Everest region. This trek has become one of the most adventurous and adrenaline-rushing treks for all adventure seekers. This trek takes you to the altitude range of (5,545m). above sea level (9,330ft) to the periphery of the world’s highest peak; Mt. Everest at (8848m) (29,028 ft) through the rugged terrain and gorges of the high Himalayas.

Everest Three High Passes Trekking starts from Lukla The Everest after flying from Kathmandu to Lukla via 45 minutes of scenic mountain flight. We begin our trekking through the land of the legendary Sherpa into the Sagarmatha (Everest) national park towards Namche Bazaar (3450m) – We spend a day as a rest day in Namche bazaar acclimatizing ourselves. This Everest Three Pass Trek trail takes you up through the uneven path with ups and downs, cutting the valleys, crossing the Dudh Koshi River through the rocky terrain, rhododendron forest, and many more. On the way, you view the rising peak of Mount Everest for the first time and other giant peaks like Mount Everest, Mount Nuptse, Mount Lhotse, Mount Amadablam, and Mount Cho Oyu, and Mount Makalu are a few to describe. Then the trail follows the steep-sided Dudh Koshi River, we then enter the Everest Base Camp region. From Tengboche to Pangboche (3,985m) the trail rises through meadows where the yak grazes. After touring the famous monastery in Tengboche we set out and cross the Lobuche Khola to arrive at Pheriche. In Pheriche, we spend a day as a rest day acclimatizing ourselves and exploring the huge glaciers of Khumbu region. After crossing the moraines of the Changri Shar Glacier, we reach the sandy plain of Gorak Shep. Then we climb up amongst large boulders to the broad summit of Kalapathar (5,545m) – the highest access point of this trek offering the most spectacular and different view of Everest which offers the best view of Everest and Khumbu Glacier. We trek back to Lukla via the same route.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2827m) and then trek to Phakding(2610m)

First of all, you will go to Tribhuvan International Airport to fly to Lukla which lasts for 30 minutes. Then, you will reach the hotel in Lukla and have some breakfast there. From Lukla, you will head to the Thadokoshi River(2550). Far away from the Thadokoshi River, the trail goes upwards to Ghat (2580m). During this trek, you will come across the stones that are carved with Tibetan Buddhism six words which are known as Mani stones. You will continue the climb to reach Pakhding village which is attractive.

Day 2:
Phakding(2620m) to Namche Bazaar(3460m)

Today, through the path of Dudh Koshi river alongside pine forests, you will begin the second day of your hike. You will cross the 5 suspension bridges on your approach to Namche. You can see the captivating village Banker Manjo(5364m), which is the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park. Subsequent to going through the last bridge, you will proceed with a 2 hours climb. On the path, you will savour an interesting view of Mt Everest. At the entrance, you have to validate your permit. You will reach Jorsalle by climbing 15-20 minutes which is the last spot before Namche. Here you will have your lunch. At that point proceeding the trek you can see breathtaking views of Everest and Nuptse. A move through pine woods for 2 to 3 hours depending on your speed prompts the promising and attractive village of the Namche Bazaar.

Day 3:
Acclimatization and exploration in Namche Bazaar(3460m)

Today you will go on a climb around Namche Bazaar. Right off the bat, you will visit the Hillary museum. On the trail, you will see the Everest range which is considered one of the most mesmerizing viewpoints in the world. After half an hour, you will be proceeding with your journey to Syangboche Everest(3780m) view hotel where you can appreciate the impressive mountain views. You will be captivated by the clear range of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and different mountains. You will be enjoying your visit to the Syangboche landing strip(3780m) from where you will move towards Khunde(3840m) passing stone Buddhist Monuments. Then you will descend to Namche.

Day 4:
Namche Bazaar(3460m) to Tengboche(3860m)

Today you will continue towards Tengboche. On the way to Tengboche, the views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Ama Dablam(6812m) are extraordinary. You can look at the spotted deer and colourful Himalayan birds, namely Daphne which are also known as Nepal’s national bird. The trail reaches Sanasa(3600m) and drops towards Phunki Thenga(3190m). Then it enters the rhododendron and pine forests. Then your destination will reach to the hilltop village of Tengboche at 3870m . The scene from there is said to have splendid landscapes like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Kantega, Mt. Ama Dablam and other peaks. During the time of October and November, local people here celebrate Mani Rimdu festivals during the full moon. You can also visit the monastery in the afternoon.

Day 5:
Tengboche(3860m) to Dingboche(4410m)

You will begin your trek with a descent through beautiful forests. You will cross the Imja Khola and gradually ascend to Pangboche(3985m). Continuing your trek along the river and ascending Lobuche Khola(4940m), you reach Dingboche. Here, you can find a number of lodges and tenting areas since it is the most famous village for tourists.The west of the Imja River(4360m) exists a helicopter landing pad. It is a very moderating village with lots of views of mountains.

Day 6:
Dingboche(4410m) to Chhukung(4700m)

After having a savoury breakfast in the morning you will start your trek to Chhukung. You need to ascend for a few hours to reach there. You can see the beautiful mountains closely which seems to be impressive and better too. While walking you can see Lhotse towers on your left and Ama Dablam on your right. After waking some time you reach a yak rancher named Bible. From there you will walk nearly about half an hour to reach Chhukung. After reaching there you can see enormous snowy mountains all around the place.

Day 7:
Chhukung(4700m) to Lobuche(4940m) passing Kongma-La (5,546 m)

Today is one of the hardest and longest days of your Three Pass Trek. The difficulty is the Kongma-La pass because there will be a lot of snow. So, to cross heavy snow is really impracticable. You will cross the small river behind Chhukung. You will continue your walk until you come to the green hill from where you will be able to see Dingboche and Tengboche. After that your way is easy. Now you will reach the top of Kongma-La. The scene from there is superb. You can see Lobuche. You descend from there which is truly more difficult than ascending. An hour walk brings you to the bottom of the pass. So from there, you will move to Lobuche. You can see Kala Patthar(5643m), Everest Base Camp and many mountains from there.

Day 8:
Lobuche(4940m) to Gorak Shep(5100m) to Everest Base Camp(5364m) back to Gorak Shep

In the first part of the day, You will climb till you reach up to Gorak Shep from Lobuche. After you stroll for 60 minutes, the way gets troublesome however you will be amazed by extremely pleasant views on a wide range of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse and different mountains. You will take lunch at Gorakshep. After having lunch, you will go to your last destination for Everest Base Camp. On your path, you will also get to see Khumbu Glacier(4900m). After hiking for around one hour you will cross the glacier and enter the Everest Base Camp area(5364m). After reaching there you can see the renowned Khumbu glacier and Icefall. From Base camp, you will be able to see Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Khumbuste and Mt. Pumori. After roaming, you can enjoy the sunset there and you come back to Gorak Shep due to the low temperature and high altitude at Everest Base Camp.

Day 9:
Gorakshep(5164m) to Kalapatthar(5643m) and Dzongla(4830m)

Early morning at 4 am your leader gives you a wake-up call then you head off to Kala Patthar (5550m) to see the best sunrise and Everest view. You will see the whole Everest region Himalaya from Kala Patthar top. It is challenging to wake up early in the morning. You must wear good mountain gear. This morning you might feel freezing cold on the way to the top. When you reach 5550m you will be back at the same guest house in Gorak Shep then pack your things, have breakfast then head down via Lobuche village to Dzangla. On the way back, you will pass glaciers and landslides. So, you must listen to your guides. You will have some Lunch in Labuchhe then head a gradual trail to Dzangla. You have a perfect valley, close mutation and glasses on the way. You must have another good day today.

Day 10:
Dzongla(4830m) to Cho La pass(5420m) to Dragnag(4700m)

You are having your breakfast early and then set up for Cho La pass(5420mt). It is a more adventurous day for you. First you will go a gradual trail to Chola phedi for 1 and half hours then you will start climbing to the top of Cho La. The trail is so rocky with a bit of big steps but you are going soundly and safely. After about a 2 and half-hour climb, you reach the top of Cho La pass. You will find more ice and snow in winter on the trail. You will surely need crampons in the winter season. Yours leader tells you when to use it and when to take it out. When you reach the top you will feel as an adventure trip on top of the world. It is also time to make a group picture. You can have some snacks and a packed lunch on the top with a perfect view of the mountain. Then you are ready to go down with rope. It is steep down a rocky trail for 45 min. You must be careful after the top-down trail. From here on, you will have a better trail to heading Dragnag. It takes you about two an hour down an easy trail. When you reach the guest house of Dragnag you will have a hot shop and tea.

Day 11:
Dragnag(4700m) to Gokyo(4750m)

Today you will start a little later than normal. After breakfast, you leave for Gokyo. Today your trek is on the glacier of Gyazumba which is the biggest glacier in the world. You will be enjoying about three hours on the glacier. Do not climb the rocks or make noise on this trail. This is a narrow and rocky trail. When you reach Gokyo, you will pass a landslide area and climb to the ridge of the lake. You have a perfect lake view from the reach. You will go to have lunch in Gokyo then you will explore the lake area sight visit.

Day 12:
Acclimatization at Gokyo(4750m)

Today is the acclimatization day so you will climb towards Gokyo Ri(5350m) which is the first part of the day for 2-3 hours. From that point, you can see Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu which are above 8000m. and numerous other mountains. We can likewise see the longest glaciers which are 27km long. This is considered as probably the best viewpoint in the world. After exploring and capturing the memories there, you will return to the lodging and rest onwards.

Day 13:
Gokyo to Renjo-La(5446m) to Marulung(4150m)

Today is also an important and adventurous day. You will trek to Renjo-La pass. If there is no snow then it will be easy for you otherwise it is a bit difficult to reach the top. You can enjoy the scenic views of different mountains like Mt. Everest(8848m), Mt. Lhotse(8516m), Mt. Cho-Oyu(8201m), and Mt. Makalu(8481m) and many more big mountains. From there you will descend to the other side almost for an hour then you can see a small lake. You will reach Lungden. Walking slowly and steadily nearly for another hour takes you to Marulung.

Day 14:
Marulung(4150m) to Namche Bazar(3430m)

You will start for today’s destination i.e Namche. You will go through Thame(3850m) where you can also visit the ancient monastery of the Khumbu region there. After visiting the monastery you will stop to take lunch. You can also experience the practices and culture of spiritual Buddhists. You will ascend downhill to the Namche. You can see many beautiful mountains in the backdrop. Sherpa Culture is the personification of Namche.

Day 15:
Namche Bazaar(3460m) to Lukla(2850m)

After breakfast, you will trek towards the Hillary suspension bridge and then pass through many villages. The way to Lukla is downhill to the flat part. You will pass the Sagarmatha National Park and reach Lukla in the evening. You will also visit one of the popular monasteries along with different panoramic views. You will lose an altitude of around 600 metres that day. It will be the last day of your Everest trek.

Day 16:
Flight from Lukla(2850m) to Kathmandu(1400m)

Next morning you will take a departure flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. During the flight, you will appreciate the lovely landscape until you arrive at Kathmandu from where you will head to your inn and get some rest.
