Overview

The Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trekking is one of the most popular trekking destinations in the Khumbu region. Footing at an elevation of(8,848m). above sea level trekking to the neck of this highest mountain of the world, Mt. Everest is the ultimate adventure for any tourist seeking thrill and excitement. Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trek is made by thousands of tourists every year. Whoever has explored this adventurous trail has claimed it to be the most memorable event of their lifetime thanks to the amazing landscapes of Nepal and the very delightful Nepali people. Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trekking start the Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

Then from Lukla, we walk for the first three days ascending the Everest Base Camp. The Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trekking trail in Everest region is filled with ups and down the hills passing the steep-sided valleys of Dudh Koshi river, cutting the valleys, moraines, and lush valleys, famous monasteries with some of the places offering the most splendid view of some mesmerizing mountains, Mount Everest (8,848m). Mount Nuptse, Mount Lhotse (8586m), Mount Amadablam, Mount Cho-yu (8201m), Mount Makalu and lots of small peaks in the region. On the trek we spend a day as acclimatization in Namche bazaar, exploring nearby peaks and Khumbu glaciers.

As you ascend up the Namche bazaar you will reach Machhermo via Khumjung. From Machhermo the trail takes you over the west for a gradual ascent up to the beautiful five lakes of Gokyo (4,790m). where we can take a rest for some period and do some side treks including a climb of Gokyo-Ri (5,360m). for a close-up view of some spectacular mountains in the region. From Gokyo, we trek over the Cho-la pass (5,330 m). onwards to Gorak Shep (5,130 m). on the main trail to our final destination Kalapathar (5,550 m). which offers incomparable and different views of Everest. After arriving at Kalapathar we spend some time enjoying ourselves with some sightseeing and photography before descending back to Lukla. While returning back to Lukla trail pass through a picturesque water-driven prayer wheel and reach Tengboche (3,860m). you will visit the famous Buddhist Gompa named Tengboche monastery

Itinerary

Day 1:
Flight from Kathmandu (1300m) to Lukla (2850m) and trek to Phakding (2620m)

First of all, you will go to Lukla by flight which lasts for 30 minutes. You will reach the hotel in Lukla and have some breakfast after reaching there. If you’ve hired a local porter, you will meet him. After the settlement, you will start your trekking. From Lukla, you will head to the north from the landing strip to Chheplung (2670m). You will need to cross the Thadokoshi River(2550). Just passing the bridge, you can see the Kusum Kanguru peak (6367m) which might be a bit difficult to climb. Far away from the Thadokoshi River, the trail goes upwards to Ghat (2580m). During this trek, you will come across the rocks or stones that are carved with Tibetan Buddhism’s six words which are known as Mani stones. You will continue the climb to reach Pakhding village which is attractive.

Day 2:
Phakding(2620m) to Namche Bazaar(3460m)

Today, through the Dudh Koshi river along with pine forests, you will start the second day of your trek. You will cross altogether 5 suspension bridges on your way to Namche. You can see the fascinating village Banker Manjo(5364m), which is the headquarter of Sagarmatha National Park. After passing through the last bridge you will continue the 2 hours climb. On the trail, you will relish a fascinating view of Mt Everest. At the entrance, you need to authenticate your permit checkpoint. After climbing 15-20 minutes you will reach Jorsalle which is the last place before Namche. Here you will have your lunch. Then continuing the ascend you can see influencing the impression of Everest and Nuptse. A climb through pine forests for 2 to 3 hours depending on your speed leads to the auspicious trading and managerial town of the Namche Bazaar.

Day 3:
Acclimatization and exploration in Namche Bazaar(3460m)

Acclimatization is the adjustment to high attitudes so to avoid altitude illness acclimatization is very important. Today you will go on a hike around Namche Bazaar. Firstly you will visit the Hillary museum. On the way, you will see a panorama view of the Everest range which is considered one of the most fascinating viewpoints in the world. After half an hour, you will be continuing your trek to Syangboche Everest(3780m) view hotel where you will enjoy the fabulous mountain views. You will be fascinated by broad views of Everest, Lhotse and other mountains on a day. You will enjoy visiting the Syangboche landing strip (3780m) from where you will climb towards Khunde(3840m) passing stone Buddhist Monuments. Then you will enjoy here a lot and descend to Namche.

Day 4:
Namche Bazaar (3460m) to Tengboche(3860m)

Today you will continue towards Tengboche. On the way to Tengboche, the views of Everest and Ama Dablam(6812m) are extraordinary. You can look at the spotted deer and colourful Himalayan birds, namely Daphne which are also known as Nepal’s national bird. The trail reaches Sanasa(3600m) and drops towards Phunki Thenga (3190m). Then it enters the rhododendron and pine forests. Then your destination will reach the hilltop village of Tengboche at 3870m. The scene from there is said to have splendid landscapes like Everest, Nuptse, Kantega, Ama Dablam and other peaks. During the time of October and November, local people here celebrate Mani Rimdu festivals during the full moon. You can also visit the monastery in the afternoon.

Day 5:
Tengboche(3860m) to Dingboche(4410m)

You will begin your trek with a descent through beautiful forests. You will cross the Imja Khola and gradually ascend to Pangboche(3985m). Continuing your trek along the river and ascending Lobuche Khola(4940m), you reach Dingboche. Here, you can find a number of lodges and tenting areas since it is the most famous village for tourists. The west of the Imja River(4360m) exists a helicopter landing pad. It is a very moderating village with lots of views of mountains.

Day 6:
Acclimatization in Dingboche(4410m)

After a savoury breakfast, around 8:30 in the morning you will start your trek to Chukhung(5550m). You can view the amazing mountains mainly Ama Dablam. The wind over here is really fresh and strong too. Chukhung is really famous for Island Peak climbing which is a great way to explore the best and most stunning views of the mountain range. And finally, you will go back to Dingboche.

Day 7:
Dingboche(4410m) to Lobuche(4940m)

In the morning, your trek will begin after your breakfast. Today your trek will be more challenging due to the higher altitude. Through the trail, you will reach Thugla(4600m). After walking for some time you will get closer to high mountains like Mt.Nuptse and Mt. Pumori. You can see the beautiful views of Mt.Lobuche too. There would be freezing cold so you need to carry warm clothes because we will be approx. 5000m above sea level. It will be quite pleasant as it is 4-5 hours long. When you come out of the valley, you will descend to Lobuche yak pastures.

Day 8:
Lobuche(4940m) to Gorak Shep(5164m) to Everest base camp(5364m)

In the morning, You will hike till you reach Gorak Shep from Lobuche. After you walk for one hour, the path gets difficult but you will be astonished by really nice views of a big range formed by Everest, Nuptse and other mountains. You will take lunch at Gorakshep . After having lunch, you will head to your final destination for Everest Base Camp. At your destination, you will come closer to Khumbu Glacier(4900m). After walking for about one hour you will cross the glacier and enter the Everest Base Camp area(5364m). After reaching there you can view the famous Khumbu glacier and Icefall. After exploring, enjoying the sunset and capturing mesmerized memories you will return to Gorak Shep because of low altitude and high altitude than Everest Base Camp.

Day 9:
Gorakshep(5164m) to Kalapathar(5643m) and Dzongla(4830m)

Early morning at 4 am your leader gives you a wake-up call then you head off to Kala Patthar (5550m) to see the best sunrise and Everest view. You will see the whole Everest region Himalaya from Kala Patthar top. It is challenging to wake up early in the morning. You must wear good mountain gear. This morning you might feel freezing cold on the way to the top. When you reach 5550m you will be back at the same guest house in Gorakshep then pack your things, have breakfast then head down via Labuchhe village to Dzangla. On the way back you will pass glaciers and landslides you must be hearing your guides. You will have some Lunch in Labuchhe then head a gradual trail to Dzangla. You have a perfect valley, close mutation and glasses on the way. You must have another good day today.

Day 10:
Dzongla(4830m) to Cho La pass(5420m) to Dragnag(4700m)

You are having your breakfast early and then set up for Chola pass(5420mt). It is a more adventurous day for you. First, you will go a gradual trail to Chola phedi for 1 and half hours then you will start climbing to the top of Cho La. The trail is so rocky with a few big steps but you are going surely and safely. After about a 2 and half-hour climb, you reach the top of Cho La pass. You will find more ice and snow in winter on the trail. You will surely need crampons in the winter season. our leader tells you when to use it and when to take it out. When you reach the top you will feel as an adventure trip on top of the world. It is also time to make a group picture. You can have some snacks and a packed lunch on the top with a perfect view of the mountain. Then you are ready to go down with rope. It is steep down a rocky trail for 45 min. You must be careful after the top-down trail. From here on, you will have a better trail to heading to Dragnag. It takes you about two an hour down an easy trail. When you reach the guest house of Dragnag you will have a hot shop and tea.

Day 11:
Dragnag(4700m) to Gokyo(4790m)

Today you will start a little later than normal. After breakfast, you leave for Gokyo. Today your trek is on the glacier of Gyazumba which is the biggest glacier in the world. You will be enjoying about three hours on the glacier. Do not climb the rocks or make noise on this trail. This is a narrow and rocky trail. When you reach Gokyo, you will pass a landslide area and climb to the ridge of the lake. You have a perfect lake view from the reach. You will go to have lunch in Gokyo then you will explore the lake area sight visit.

Day 12:
Gokyo(4790m) to Gokyo Ri(5357m) to Dole(4200m)

Early morning, you wake up then head up to Gokyo Ri. It offers you the scenery of all the mountains of Everest valley including Mount Everest. You will have a great sunrise from the top. You start before breakfast with a headlamp. You cross the lake and follow the trail uphill for 2 and half hours to the top. You will be so surprised as you reach here. You must have enough water and good gear for this morning. When you finish taking pictures, you head down to the same guest house on the lake and pack your things and have breakfast. After that, you head down to Dole. You have such a beautiful trail on the way down to Dole. You will often stop for tea and lunch in Machharmu. It is a great place to have Lunch and rest your body than another two-hour trek to Dole. Dole is a small town to explore mountains.

Day 13:
Dole(4200m) to Namche( 3440m)

After breakfast, you start your trek to Namche Bazaar. You walk through forests and waterfalls. You trek downhill towards Phorche Thanga. This village lies on the bank of the river. After this village, you will now head uphill to Mogla hilltop where you will have lunch today. You have a 360-degree view from here then your trek leads you down to Kanjuma village. Then you have a gradual flat to Namche bazaar. If you wish to buy some light souvenirs from the mountain you will get them here.

Day 14:
Namche Bazar(3440m) to Lukla(2800m)

After breakfast, you will be heading down to Lukla. Today you will descend to a high bridge and follow the bank of the river. You will pass a few suspension bridges, forests and waterfalls along the way. You will pass such a nice Sherpa village with so much tradition of Sherpa. You will find a handcrafted Buddhist mantra in the mani wall. You will stop a few paces for tea and lunch. you have a good lunch at Phakding then you have a mixed trail to Lukla. Before Lukla, you will ascend for one hour. Lukla village welcomes travellers through a huge traveller gate and statue of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. She is the first women to summit Mt. Everest.

Day 15:
Lukla(2800m) to Kathmandu(1400m)

Today you will fly with small aircraft to Kathmandu. It takes a 40 minute flight. When you land in Kathmandu airport, you drive via a private transport to your hotel. Today we will have a welfare dinner with your trip leader. Then you will finish your trip.
