Everest from Flight is a Bucket List Moment

Seeing Everest from the air is one of those things you never forget. I was grinning the whole flight and kept thinking, “Yep, this is happening!” This was my first experience of taking a mountain flight from where I could just experience world’s greatest peaks at once. Even talking about it now gives me chills.

Food Coma & Guide Advice during Food Tour

My guide kept saying, “Eat slowly, enjoy everything,” but I couldn’t help myself. Chhoila, sekuwa, momo, yomari and I was full halfway through and laughing at myself. Ending with tea while sitting and joking about my messy fingers was the perfect wrap-up. Guide’s advice? Important, but sometimes chaos is part of the fun.

Hiking to Base Camp = Adventure Mode

The hike to Everest Base Camp was tough with the altitude, but reaching it felt like winning a mini-life challenge. The mountains are gigantic, glaciers everywhere, it’s unreal. I kept turning around to stare at Lhotse and Makalu. They were massive and so close. Totally worth the sore legs.

Kathmandu’s Spicy Chhoila Almost Beat Me

I didn’t think I could handle spicy food, but the chhoila on this tour was next level. My tongue was on fire, but I couldn’t stop eating. The smoky flavor just kept calling me back. Bara helped cool me down a bit, and later, momo and yomari totally made up for the spice. By the end, I was full, sweaty, but ridiculously happy.

Eastern Nepal is underrated

Everybody goes west to Pokhara and nobody comes here, which is exactly why it is good. Ilam bazaar is a working town rather than a tourist stop. Arisoodan arranged for us to visit a tea factory and see the whole process. The drive is long, so know that going in, but flying back from Bhadrapur made the return easy.

Absolutely amazing full day

Barad (My Tour guide) was extremely knowledgeable. It is a day with lots to see and more to learn, definitely recommended. Even though there are so many places to visit but Barad never made me feel rushed. He still allowed me time to have tea, yoghurt, and enjoy good views. This is a fantastic tour. If you are interested in UNESCO World Heritage sites, you can book this full-day tour.

Downhill all the way to the oldest temple

We drove up to Nagarkot early and walked down, which is the right direction to do it in. The path goes through pine and terraced fields and small villages, and Changunarayan at the bottom is genuinely old in a way that is hard to take in. The stone carvings around the temple are worth slowing down for. Barad knew the history and told it well without turning it into a lecture.

Tired legs but a happy heart

There was one day during birdwatching near Jagdishpur Taal when I seriously underestimated the walking time. My legs were sore, and I questioned my fitness for a moment. I slowed down, took breaks, drank water, and focused on enjoying the surroundings instead of rushing. By the end, I felt proud for sticking through it. The rest of the tour balanced effort and comfort well. Jeep safaris made wildlife viewing easy, and quiet mornings were perfect for photography. Bardiya and Chitwan were highlights, while Lumbini added calmness. The long drives were tiring but manageable. Overall, this trip reminded me that small challenges are part of travel and often make the experience more memorable. Nepal gave me both effort and reward, and I truly enjoyed it.

A day I’ll never forget

We started the tour in Kathmandu, and I thought it would be calm, but right away I got a hilarious reminder that I’m terrible with maps and I got us lost in the hotel neighborhood! Luckily, the guide stayed calm and made it fun, showing me the local spots anyway. Lumbini was peaceful, and the birdwatching at Jagdishpur Lake was stunning. I almost tripped over a tree root while chasing a kingfisher, which made everyone laugh. The drive to Chitwan was long but scenic, and once we arrived, the jeep safari was the highlight. I saw deer, wild boars, and countless birds up close. By the end, I had sore feet, a soaked jacket from a sudden rain, and a memory I’ll never forget.

Those Ulleri steps and what saved me

Three thousand stone steps up to Ulleri is no joke on day one. What saved me was the evening session working on legs and hips. Next morning I was fine. Binod set an easy pace and never made me feel slow. Ghandruk on the way down was lovely and the whole thing only took five days, which suited the time I had.

Gurung hospitality in Sikles

Sikles is one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal and staying there was as memorable as the lake. Stone houses, slate roofs, and people who genuinely wanted to talk to us. Binod grew up nearby and knew everyone, which changed the whole experience. We ended up eating dinner with a family rather than in a lodge. The trek to Kapuche and Kori after that was beautiful but Sikles is what I still think about.

The last hour into the sanctuary

Nothing prepares you for the moment the valley opens up. You walk for days between steep walls, and then suddenly the whole sanctuary is around you in a circle. I actually stopped and sat down for a bit. Binod gave us plenty of time up there and did not rush anyone, which I appreciated. The tea house at base camp was basic but warm enough, and the dal bhat came fast. Coming down to Bamboo the next day my knees complained, but I would do the whole thing again.

Best Coffee View Ever at Everest

I had my little cup of coffee on the plane, and I swear nothing beats sipping it while watching the Himalayas roll by under the morning sun. The clouds sat low, like a fluffy white blanket, and the mountains just towered above them. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to take a hundred photos or just put my phone down and soak it all in. In the end, I did both and still wished the flight lasted longer haha!

Shivapuri forest was full of birds

The first day goes through Shivapuri National Park and the forest is dense and alive. Dipesh kept stopping to point out birds I would have walked straight past. From Chisapani onward you get Langtang and Ganesh Himal in the distance on a clear morning. Easy enough that my teenagers managed it without complaining much.

Exactly what I needed at that time

This pilgrimage tour came at the right time for me. I needed something calm, and this delivered exactly that. From the quiet energy at Swayambhunath to the peaceful walks around Bouddhanath, everything felt soothing. Kopan Monastery and Pharping were simple but meaningful. Pokhara gave some breathing space with nature, and the sunrise view was a beautiful bonus. Meditation at the Peace Pagoda felt natural, not forced. Lumbini was powerful in a gentle way, especially when visiting the Maya Devi Temple. The drives were long, yes, but they gave time to think and process everything. The guide kept things smooth and relaxed. I returned home feeling lighter, calmer, and grateful for the whole experience.

We arrived before sunset and got a place on the steps across the river. The lamps come out as it gets dark and the bells and singing start, and the whole ghat turns orange. It is a cremation site as well, which I had not fully understood beforehand, and seeing both things happening at once was moving rather than uncomfortable. Dipesh explained what was happening quietly and without making it a performance.

Not your usual tour

Okay, first off, this is not your usual tourist tour. There were no crazy crowds, no rushed sightseeing, just a lot of meaningful moments. Swayambhunath gave insane views of Kathmandu, and Bouddhanath made me stop and just watch life happen around the stupa. Kopan Monastery felt welcoming without feeling like a classroom. Pharping was quiet and meditative in a very natural way. The drive to Pokhara was long, yes, but scenic and honestly relaxing. Sarangkot sunrise was magical, and Lumbini hit me differently than I expected. Walking through the monasteries built by different countries was surprisingly fascinating. The guide was chill, helpful, and answered all our random questions. By the last day, I felt mentally calm, happy, and weirdly connected to the trip.

Lete to Thulo Bugin in the rain

We had one very wet day going up from Lete and the forest was dripping and slippery the whole way. Nabaraj kept everyone moving and found us a dry spot for lunch. It cleared the next morning and the pass was in full sun. Weather on this route is less predictable than the main trails because you are on the western side, so build in a spare day.

Sinuwa stairs are real

Whoever tells you this trek is easy has not done the climb up to Sinuwa. It is stone steps for a very long time. That said, once you are past it the trail settles down and the views open up properly. Nabaraj carried extra water for the group on that section without being asked. Reaching base camp on day five felt like a real achievement and the group we ended up with made the evenings fun.

Dobhan onwards is where it changes

The first days from Darbang through Muri are villages and farmland and quite gentle. After Dobhan you are in a gorge and then on moraine and it becomes a different trip entirely. Nabaraj was careful about pacing and made us drink constantly. Seeing the Dhaulagiri icefall up close from base camp was worth every hard hour to get there.

Ramche and the south side

The southern approach through Yamphudin and Tortong is greener and feels wilder than I expected, with proper forest before you break out above the treeline. Ramche is a beautiful spot and the walk up towards Oktang with Kanchenjunga south face ahead is superb. Nabaraj managed the food carefully on this section because supplies get thin, and we never went short.

Larke La finished it perfectly

Adding the Manaslu circuit to Tsum makes it a long trip but the two halves complement each other well. Tsum is about culture and the circuit is about the pass. Larke La was cold and windy and the descent afterwards is long, but coming over with Manaslu behind you is a proper finish. Nabaraj watched the weather closely and moved our crossing forward by a day, which turned out to be the right call.

Ghunsa is the heart of this trek

Ghunsa is a proper Tibetan style village and the rest day there is essential, both for acclimatisation and because it is a lovely place to sit still for a day. Nabaraj used the time to walk us up the hillside slowly rather than letting anyone lounge around, which I think is why nobody in our group got sick later. This is a long remote trek and having someone who has done it many times matters.

Tangting to Sikles was my favourite day

The trail between the two villages contours around the hillside with the mountains on your left the entire way. Nikhil grew up in the area and stopped to talk with people constantly, which slowed us down and improved the day enormously. This is a cultural trek more than a mountain one, but the mountains are still there and they are enormous.

Lo Manthang is worth every permit rupee

The permit for Upper Mustang is expensive and I hesitated. Do not. Walking through the walled city of Lo Manthang and visiting the caves at Chhoser felt like somewhere that had not changed in centuries. The landscape is desert, red and ochre cliffs with white peaks behind. Nikhil arranged for us to see inside two of the old monasteries which we would never have managed alone.

High camp was cold but worth it

Thorung High Camp is basic and cold and you do not sleep well at 4,925 metres. That is just the deal. What you get for it is a shorter climb to the pass in the morning. Prakash made sure everyone ate properly the night before and drank enough, which sounds obvious but at altitude you stop feeling hungry or thirsty. We all made it over. Good team, well organised, no complaints.

Cold, steep and completely worth it

Short does not mean easy. You gain a lot of height quickly and I felt it above Sing Gompa. Prakash kept slowing us down which was annoying at the time and obviously correct in hindsight. The lake itself is startling, deep blue against grey rock with snow around the edges. We had it almost to ourselves outside the August pilgrimage.

Cold morning at four thousand one hundred

I woke up before sunrise at Annapurna Base Camp and my water bottle had frozen a little inside the room. Outside it was completely silent and the peaks turned orange one after another. Prakash pointed out which mountain was which and told us how the sanctuary got its name. I am not a strong trekker and the climb from Deurali was slow for me, but he kept the pace comfortable and never made me feel like I was holding the group back.

Clumsy photographer in paradise

Bardiya’s safari felt like being in a nature show. I kept tripping over my camera strap and bumping into bushes, which made me laugh more than once. Koshi Tappu’s wetlands were gorgeous, and I’m still not sure if that bird I photographed was a Sarus Crane or a Purple Swamp Hen, but it looked amazing in my photos. Every morning was quiet and peaceful, perfect for taking pictures. Even though the drives were long, I enjoyed watching the scenery change from forests to open wetlands. Seeing animals along the way like monkeys and deer made the journey fun. Even simple roadside stops felt like little adventures. It was a relaxed and joyful way to experience nature from start to finish.
