Spring season (March to May)
Spring is an ideal season for you to take an adventure to Bhutan. You will witness blooming rhododendrons and flowers all across, adding color to the landscapes. Also, you can witness many butterflies and birds in spring. The clear skies and beautiful views of the landscapes are the major attractions of the offspring. However, be prepared for slight rainfall and a little bit more crowds on the journey.
Summer/Monsoon (June to August)
It is not a very popular season for exploring Bhutan, as there is heavy rainfall. Similarly, clouds cover the beautiful views, making the tour slightly disappointing. But this season, you will witness lush greenery and fewer crowds, making your tour well-connected to nature. However, we generally do not recommend this season for your adventure.
Fall or Autumn season (September to November)
The most favorable season for the Bhutan tour is Autumn. Like spring, you will get beautiful, clear skies and the most favorable weather. The temperature is manageable and stable, and you can see the views of Bhutan more clearly. If you make the visit during the right time, you can also take part in some major festivals in Bhutan, such as Thimphu Tsechu. However, due to being the peak and popular season, you will witness slightly higher crowds than in spring.
Winter (December to February)
If you wish to avoid crowds, winter can be perfect for you. However, you will experience freezing temperatures. If you are not into the winter season, we generally do not recommend it. Yet, this season is quite favorable to that of summer. With proper planning, you can definitely consider exploring Bhutan during the winter season.
How Difficult is Bhutan Tour?
The 6-day Bhutan Tour is an easy-to-moderate tour with an itinerary mostly focusing on gentle walking and visits to cultural sites rather than adventurous activities. The trek begins with a tour and ends with a tour with less physical exertion, making it one of the easiest trips in Bhutan. The journey involves visiting monasteries and dzongs and enjoying the geography, which is generally not physically demanding. Therefore, the Bhutan Tour is accessible to most people with a general fitness level.
However, the challenges related to altitude sickness are among the primary difficulties of the Bhutan tour. The risk of altitude sickness is a concern in the higher locations of Dochula Pass (3,100m) and Tiger’s Nest Monastery (3,120m). Yet, travelers can get to Dochula Pass by vehicle, and hiking to Tiger’s Nest is also possible by horse ride. So, with proper precautions and choosing appropriate activities that fit your fitness level, you can complete the trip easily, with no difficulties.
