Insights for Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking
Estimated Cost for Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek
The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek cost ranges from USD 3320 to USD 2330, depending on the group size. Although group size is the prominent factor that affects the cost of the trip package, there are other factors that impact and change the overall price of the trip. The duration of the journey, customization of the package, trek itinerary, chosen trekking agency, chosen mode of transportation, and level of luxury you prefer are all factors that change the cost of the trek to Kanchenjunga Circuit.
What kind of food can I expect on the Kanchenjunga Trek?
You can expect a basic kind of food on the Kanchenjunga Trek. Most tea houses provide rice, lentils, and vegetables (Dal Bhat) along the trek and have no menu. Also, you can expect to get Thukpa (a noodle soup or stew). Due to the area’s remoteness, the region offers basic food, which trekkers must adjust to. However, at Ghunsa village, you’ll get fresh-grown vegetables from the field, which you can also cook. Moreover, fresh goat meat and Nyak milk (Yak’s female’s milk) are must-try on the journey to Kanchenjunga Circuit.
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek and its flora and fauna?
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek takes place within the Kanchenjunga National Park, which is home to diverse flora and fauna. Thus, trekkers on their journey to Kanchenjunga can expect to witness and glimpse rare species of plants and animals. The region has over 2,000 flora within the National Park zone, including rhododendrons, magnolias, orchids, Pine, bamboo, fir, and hemlock. Likewise, Kanchenjunga is home to exclusive rare fauns, from red pandas, snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, musk deer, blue sheep, and wild dogs. Moreover, the region has 252 species of birds and 82 species of insects.
Can a beginner climb Mount Kanchenjunga?
No, beginners can’t climb Mount Kanchenjunga. It is one of the most difficult mountains to attempt and requires advanced mountaineering skills and experience. Even the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is not for beginners. How could a climb be? The harsh terrain with high altitude, frequent weather changes, the risk of high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE), and the need for technical equipment make the climb unsuitable for beginners. Thus, climbers must have prior climbing skills and knowledge of using technical equipment before attempting the climb to Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Who should avoid the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek?
People who are beginners and who aren’t comfortable with high-altitude treks, remote locations, long trekking days, and rough trails should avoid the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. Likewise, people lacking physical and mental preparedness should avoid the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. The route to Kanchenjunga is one of the most demanding, with very steep and complex, uneven terrain that makes it unsuitable for trekking. Likewise, the trek takes place above 4,500m, where the chance of altitude-related issues is high, as air pressure is thinner, making it difficult to breathe.
Can I access clean drinking water during the trekking?
While you can’t access clean drinking water directly, you have to either have boiled water or should purchase bottled water. However, both ways are costly; thus, we suggest that trekkers carry a refillable water bottle and a water purification tablet to access clean drinking water throughout the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. As most villages have tap water or water sources, trekkers can refill their water there and consume it after purifying it with a purification tablet.
What are the Best Seasons for Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek?
Spring and Autumn are the best trekking seasons for the Kanchenjunga Circuit trek. On the other hand, trekking in monsoon and winter is not recommended. Spring from March to May and Autumn from September to November offer the finest time for trekking in the Himalayas due to the perfect weather. The weather is pleasant and stable, with minimal changes in rainfall during that season. Likewise, Spring is even better if someone wants to witness the blossom of the National flower of Nepal, the rhododendron.
