10 days Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra
The 10-Day Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra is the shorter, budget-friendly way to complete this sacred pilgrimage. Unlike the longer 15-day route that begins in Kathmandu, this version starts right at the Tibet border — so you spend less time on the road and reach Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar faster, on a shared-vehicle basis that keeps the cost down.
Over ten days you cross from Kyirong (Gyirong) into Tibet, drive across the high plateau through Saga, and arrive at the holy Lake Mansarovar before beginning the Kailash Kora (Parikrama) — the circumambulation that crosses the 5,630m Dolma La Pass. It’s the same revered destination that Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers hold sacred, on an itinerary built for pilgrims who want the essential journey without the extra days. If you’d rather travel at a gentler pace with sightseeing in Kathmandu, see our 14-day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra instead.
For most pilgrims, Mount Kailash is not a place you simply decide to visit — it is a call you finally answer. Many carry the dream of standing before Lord Shiva’s sacred abode for years, waiting for the right moment, the right health, the right time in life. In 2026, the Tibetan Horse Year, that moment has arrived — a rare alignment that comes once in a generation, when a single parikrama around the holy mountain is believed to carry the merit of many. If Kailash has been calling you, this is the year to answer — and this 10-day journey is the most accessible way to make that lifelong dream real.

Highlights of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra
- Stand before Mount Kailash, the sacred abode of Lord Shiva — the darshan that pilgrims of four faiths wait a lifetime to receive.
- Complete the holy Kailash Kora (Parikrama) — the ~52 km circuit, crossing the 5,630m Dolma La Pass, that is believed to cleanse the sins of a lifetime and bring the soul closer to moksha.
- Offer puja and take the sacred water of Lake Mansarovar — the holy lake created by Lord Brahma — for purification of body, mind and spirit
- Travel in the Tibetan Horse Year of 2026 — an alignment that comes once in 60 years, when a single Kora is believed to carry the merit of twelve, coinciding with the Saga Dawa festival (“the Mahakumbh of Kailash”).
- Make the journey at a gentle, well-paced rhythm — because the route is spread across 10 days, you rest and acclimatize at scenic stops like Kyirong, Saga, Darchen and Dirapuk rather than rushing the climb.
- Reach the holy sites on the easy, lottery-free Nepal overland route from Kathmandu — no government Yatra slot or quota required.
- Share the pilgrimage with fellow devotees, family and temple groups — a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual vow, completed together with the support of experienced local guides.
- Along the way, experience living Tibetan Buddhist culture — ancient monasteries like Chiu and Tarboche, prayer flags on the high plateau, and warm butter tea in a mountain teahouse.
How to Reach Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar?
The easiest and most popular way to reach Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake is by an overland trip starting from Kathmandu, Nepal. From Kathmandu, you travel north to Timure, cross the Rasuwagadhi border, and enter Kyirong, the first stop on the Tibetan side. After resting and getting used to the altitude, the journey continues through Saga, Paryang, and Lake Mansarovar, finally reaching Darchen, the starting point for the Kailash Parikrama (Kora) trek. If you have more days for travel you could also choose 14 days Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Similarly, pilgrims from India often use other routes to reach Kailash. This includes trekking from the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand or the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. These routes are organized by the Indian government. Another popular but longer option starts from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, and goes to Saga and Darchen. While you won’t be reaching Kailash from Lhasa or spending days in Lhasa in our 10-day Kailash Tour package, it still covers the most important spiritual and natural sites of the Kailash Yatra.

The Spiritual Significance of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar
Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake are two of the most sacred sites for Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bonin. For Hindus, Mount Kailash, also known as Kailash Parvat, is the spiritual centre of the universe, the divine abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Whereas in Tibetan Buddhism, it is known as Mount Meru, the central pillar of the spiritual universe. Likewise, Jains believe it to be the site where their first Tirthankara attained liberation, and for Bon followers, it is the seat of spiritual power.
To date, the mountain remains untouched by human footsteps, not due to its difficulty, but out of deep reverence. Climbing is strictly prohibited. Instead of climbing it, pilgrims perform a ritual Kora (circumambulation) around the mountain. Completing one full circuit (approximately 52 km) is believed to cleanse one’s sins of a lifetime, while 108 Kora rounds are said to lead to enlightenment or salvation.
Similarly, holy Lake Manasarovar is equally spiritually significant. This high-altitude freshwater lake is considered the origin of purity and creation, and is often referred to as the “womb of the universe.” Hindus believe that taking a ritual bath in the holy waters can cleanse past sins. However, it’s discouraged to bathe directly in the lake, but pilgrims can still perform symbolic cleansing rituals using water drawn from a bucket. Many pilgrims also meditate or walk along its shoreline. Together, Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake offer a powerful spiritual journey that blends devotion, natural wonder, and inner reflection.

Why Choose the 10-Day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?
The 10-day route exists for one reason: to get devout pilgrims to Mount Kailash and
Lake Mansarovar in the least time, at the lowest cost, without cutting the parts that
matter. Instead of spending the first three days sightseeing in Kathmandu, this itinerary
drives straight toward the Nepal–Tibet border on Day 1 and heads for the mountain. You
still complete the full Kailash Kora across the 5,630m Dolma La Pass and still take the
sacred bath at Lake Mansarovar — you simply skip the extra days in the city.
Choose the 10-day route if you’re short on leave, travelling on a tighter budget, or have
done high-altitude travel before. If this is your first time at altitude and you’d prefer
extra buffer days and sightseeing in Kathmandu, our 14-day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is
the gentler option.
