Wildlife and Bird Species to Look Out For

During this 14-day safari photography adventure, you’ll explore three of Nepal’s most wildlife rich areas: Bardia National Park, Chitwan National Park, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. In Bardia National Park, there’s a good chance of spotting the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, along with elephants, rhinoceroses, sloth bears, and deer wandering through the dense jungle and grasslands. You might also catch a glimpse of the rare Gangetic dolphin if you’re near the Koshi River. Bardia is peaceful and less crowded than other parks, which makes every wildlife moment feel more personal and exciting.

In Chitwan National Park, the wildlife comes alive. It’s one of the best places in Asia to see the one-horned rhino and, with some luck, another tiger encounter. You’ll also see wild boars, monkeys, gharial crocodiles, and many types of deer. Chitwan is especially great for birdwatching, too. From bright kingfishers and green bee-eaters to the elegant lesser adjutant stork, the park is full of color and sound. The experience feels even richer when you ride through the forest in a jeep or walk softly on footpaths.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is a dream for bird lovers. The peaceful wetlands here are home to around 441 bird species, 14 of which are found only in Nepal. From large flocks of ducks and storks to the endangered Bengal Florican, every step here brings something new. You’ll also see animals like the blue bull (nilgai), wild buffalo, and even rock pythons slithering through the grass.

Challenges of Wildlife and Birdwatching Photography Tour

The wildlife and birdwatching photography tour is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. However, certain challenges come with it. Here are some of the challenges associated with wildlife photo safari:

Physical Demands

One of the key challenges of the Wildlife and Birdwatching Photography trip is the physical demands of the trek. The challenging terrains, long hikes, and extreme weather are some of the major examples of the physical demands.

Technical Challenges

You must know your camera’s settings well to take great wildlife photos. Important factors include lighting, focus, shutter speed, and ISO. It takes time and practice to master these skills.

Being Patient

One major challenge of the wildlife photo safari is to be patient. Animals and birds are unpredictable and don’t follow daily routines, so you must be patient to get the desired photo shoot.

Tips for Planning a Successful Wildlife and Birdwatching Photography Trip

A successful wildlife and birdwatching photography trip is one of the most exciting ways to explore Nepal’s natural beauty. With the right preparation, this 14-day journey can become a truly unforgettable adventure. Here are some practical tips to help you plan better:

  • Research in destination: Firstly, you should research the places you are going to visit and the animals or birds you hope to photograph. You may want to photograph Bengal tigers in Bardia or rare birds in Koshi Tappu. Knowing what to expect helps you pack the right gear and plan your time wisely.
  • Understand local wildlife behavior: Once you know your destinations, take time to learn about the behavior of local wildlife. Keep a safe distance, remain quiet and patient, and avoid sudden movements. The best photos often come from observation and stillness.
  • Respect the environment: Above all, respect the environment. Follow the “Leave No Trace” principle. Take only pictures, leave only footprints.

Who Should Join a Wildlife and Bird Photography Tour?

Anyone who wants to see wildlife and birds in their natural habitat can join this wildlife and bird photo clicking trip. They may be birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, new or experienced photographers, and travelers seeking adventures.

An honest and well-paced wildlife tour with Guide Rama

The 14-Day Wildlife and Birdwatching Photography Tour was an amazing experience overall. Bardiya and Koshi Tappu were definitely the highlights for me. The jeep safaris in Bardiya felt quiet and authentic, and even though wildlife sightings like tigers depend on luck, the guides were extremely knowledgeable and patient, pointing out signs and explaining animal behavior. Birdwatching days were relaxed, which made photography much easier and enjoyable. Some of the driving days were long, especially between Chitwan and Koshi Tappu, but the route made sense since we covered so many important wildlife and birding areas. Hotels were simple but clean, and food was consistently good. If you enjoy nature, photography, and don’t mind early mornings and long drives, this tour is definitely worth it.

Clumsy photographer in paradise

Bardiya’s safari felt like being in a nature show. I kept tripping over my camera strap and bumping into bushes, which made me laugh more than once. Koshi Tappu’s wetlands were gorgeous, and I’m still not sure if that bird I photographed was a Sarus Crane or a Purple Swamp Hen, but it looked amazing in my photos. Every morning was quiet and peaceful, perfect for taking pictures. Even though the drives were long, I enjoyed watching the scenery change from forests to open wetlands. Seeing animals along the way like monkeys and deer made the journey fun. Even simple roadside stops felt like little adventures. It was a relaxed and joyful way to experience nature from start to finish.

Birdwatching tour surprises

There’s something special about stepping into Koshi Tappu at sunrise. The wetlands were calm, the air fresh, and the animals slowly waking up made the mornings perfect for photography. A colorful kingfisher perched nearby, and I spent a long time trying to photograph it without disturbing it. Watching ducks swim gracefully across the wetlands and noticing how birds and fish moved made every moment peaceful and beautiful. The reflection of the sky on the water and the soft morning light added a magical touch to the scenery. I enjoyed small details, like the leaves moving gently in the trees and the water rippling around the birds. Each day brought new sights and experiences, and the quiet mornings, amazing landscapes, and wildlife made the trip unforgettable.

Joyful Trip surprises everywhere

Chitwan, Bardiya, and Koshi Tappu were full of amazing moments. The jeep safaris and walks through wetlands made me feel close to nature, and the mornings were quiet and perfect for taking photos. During one walk, a crocodile slid into the water right in front of us, which surprised everyone but made a great photo. A group of monkeys followed our path for a while, and we all laughed at their playful antics. Watching the sun set over the wetlands with birds flying across the sky was beautiful. These little surprises happened every day and made me feel really connected to nature.

An unforgettable adventure
I truly recommend this tour for anyone who loves wildlife and nature. Visiting Bardiya, Chitwan, and Koshi Tappu gave me a chance to experience Nepal in a completely different way. The mornings were quiet and perfect for photography, and the forests and wetlands felt alive with movement. Every day brought something new, from seeing birds in flight to observing animals in their natural environment. The changing landscapes made each day unique and interesting, and the soft light during sunrise and sunset created incredible photo opportunities. Traveling through these areas allowed me to notice small details, like patterns in the water or the subtle colors of the sky. This trip gave me a true sense of peace and connection with nature, and I had the best time exploring Nepal’s incredible wildlife. And huge thanks to Himalayan 360 as well!

Perfect for patient photographers and bird lovers

I went on the 14-Day Wildlife and Birdwatching Photography Tour mainly for photography, and it exceeded my expectations. Koshi Tappu was a dream for birdwatching with dozens of species in peaceful wetlands, while Bardiya and Chitwan offered memorable safari experiences. The guides were excellent, helping spot animals and birds I would have otherwise missed. The schedule is demanding, with early mornings and long travel days, but the itinerary was realistic and well-planned to cover all major wildlife areas. Hotels were basic but comfortable, and food was good. Thank you to Himalayan 360 for organizing such a smooth, well-paced, and unforgettable tour. This trip is perfect for anyone who loves wildlife photography, doesn’t mind long drives, and wants a genuine experience with nature.

Immersed in peaceful wilderness

The moment I entered Koshi Tappu, I felt calm and focused. The mornings were perfect for photography, and the gentle light of sunrise created a magical atmosphere. Observing wildlife from close but respectful distances was peaceful and rewarding. The variety of landscapes added depth to the trip. Open wetlands, forested areas, and quiet riverbanks each offered a different perspective. Watching birds fly and land, along with subtle movements in the water, made every moment interesting. Jeep safaris allowed smooth movement and easy observation of animals and birds. The changing scenery kept the journey engaging, while the quiet and stillness gave time to reflect and appreciate the environment. Each day felt like a new experience, and the combination of calm mornings, wildlife, and beautiful landscapes made this trip truly unforgettable.
