There are mainly two permits required for the Annapurna Base Camp short trek. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card.
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
ACAP is a mandatory permit issued for entering the Annapurna Conservation Area, which covers the trekking routes in the Annapurna region. It helps fund conservation efforts, maintain trails, and support local communities.
TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
The TIMS card is another essential permit that provides trekking-related information and ensures safety for trekkers. There are two types of TIMS cards: one for independent trekkers and one for trekkers with a guide. For the ABC trek, you’ll likely need the TIMS card for guided trekkers.
ACAP and TIMS permits can be obtained with certain documents. This includes a copy of the individual Passport, two PP-size photos, details of the trekking itinerary and the area of the trek, and the cost fee of the permits, which must be in Nepali currency.
Spring brings moderate temperatures with mild days and cool nights, making it comfortable for trekking. The landscape comes alive with vibrant rhododendron blooms, creating colorful vistas along the trekking route. The skies are generally clear, offering excellent visibility of the stunning mountain views, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Spring provides warmer daytime temperatures compared to the colder winter months, making the trek more pleasant.
Autumn is known for its stable and dry weather conditions, making it an ideal time for trekking. The skies are typically clear, providing unobstructed views of the mountains. The temperatures are still relatively moderate, with warm days and cool nights. Autumn is also the harvest season so you will see the locals harvesting crops, adding to the cultural experience.
Monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, landslides, and muddy trails, making trekking inadvisable during this time. Avoid trekking at this time as you may not get the experience you have heard about the Annapurna Base Camp trek.
Winter in Annapurna region can be quite cold at higher elevations especially if you are not used to extreme cold seasons and there may be snow on the trail. If you prefer a quieter trekking experience, winter can be a good option, but be prepared for colder conditions and potential trail closures.
